South Tyrol holidays

In every village of Valle Aurina (German: Ahrntal) and in the nearby Val Pusteria (German: Pustertal), the day before the “Kirchtagmichl” village fete a straw stooge called “Michl” is hoisted on a 25 meters pole. It’s dressed with a white shirt, black leather trousers, a hat and has a bottle of wine in his hands. This fete has many variants from village to village, but a steady point is its celebration in autumn. The stooge is hoisted by the village young people on the pole thanks to their forces; it’ s still a honor to make it! The whole Saturday night the village young people oversee the stooge, because it would be a dishonor if it will be stolen by the other villages young people! Fun is assured all night long thanks to music, balls and typical dishes. On Sunday, at the end of the village fete, “Michl” is pulled down and conserved till the next year, or buried.
